When you decide to get CPR certified in Chicago, one of the first questions you'll face is: American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross? Both are reputable organizations, but there are meaningful differences that could affect which is right for you.

The AHA is widely considered the gold standard for CPR certification, particularly in healthcare settings. Their guidelines are the most widely adopted by hospitals, medical schools, and healthcare employers across the United States.

For healthcare professionals — nurses, doctors, EMTs, medical students — AHA certification is almost always required. Check with your employer or school, but the answer is almost universally AHA BLS or ACLS.
