ACLS Certification in Chicago: A Complete Guide for Healthcare Providers
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is the next level of certification beyond BLS, designed for healthcare providers who may be involved in managing cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. If you work in an ER, ICU, cardiac unit, or any acute care setting in Chicago, ACLS is likely required.
Who Needs ACLS Certification?
ACLS is typically required for: physicians (especially ER, anesthesia, cardiology, and critical care), registered nurses in ICU, ER, cardiac, and step-down units, advanced practice providers (NPs, PAs), respiratory therapists, and paramedics. Check with your hospital or employer for specific requirements.
What Does ACLS Cover?
ACLS builds on BLS skills and adds: systematic approach to acute coronary syndromes, stroke recognition and management, cardiac arrest algorithms (VF, pVT, PEA, asystole), post-cardiac arrest care, airway management, and pharmacology of resuscitation drugs.
How Long Does ACLS Take?
Initial ACLS certification typically takes 12–15 hours (often split over 2 days). ACLS renewal is shorter — about 6–8 hours. Our courses use a combination of case-based learning, simulation, and skills stations to maximize retention.
Prerequisites for ACLS
You must have a current AHA BLS certification before taking ACLS. If your BLS has expired, you'll need to renew it first. We offer same-day BLS + ACLS packages for convenience.
