Stop The Bleed: Why This Training Is Now Essential for Everyone
Uncontrolled hemorrhage — severe bleeding — is the number one preventable cause of death from trauma. Whether it's a car accident, a workplace injury, a kitchen accident, or a mass casualty event, the ability to control bleeding in the first few minutes can mean the difference between life and death.
What Is Stop The Bleed?
Stop The Bleed is a national awareness campaign and training program developed by the American College of Surgeons in response to mass casualty events. It teaches three core skills: applying direct pressure, wound packing, and tourniquet application.
The Three Core Skills
Direct Pressure: For most wounds, firm, continuous direct pressure is the first and most effective intervention. The course teaches proper technique — not just pressing lightly, but applying real force to compress the bleeding vessel.
Wound Packing: For deep wounds where direct pressure isn't enough, packing the wound with gauze and applying pressure from inside is highly effective. This skill is taught hands-on with realistic training materials.
Tourniquet Application: For life-threatening limb bleeding, a properly applied tourniquet is the most effective intervention. The course covers correct placement, tightening, and time-marking.
Who Should Take This Course?
Everyone. Teachers, coaches, parents, office workers, security personnel, construction workers — anyone who might be first on scene at a traumatic injury. The course takes about 2 hours and requires no prior medical knowledge.
Stop The Bleed is available as a standalone course or as part of our Corporate & Group training packages. Book your class today.
