Healthcare Professionals
BLS (Basic Life Support) is the standard CPR certification required for virtually all healthcare professionals who work in clinical settings or provide direct patient care.
Required by all Illinois hospitals and healthcare systems. BLS is a condition of employment and must be maintained throughout your nursing career.
BLS is the foundation of pre-hospital emergency care. Required for EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and Paramedic licensure in Illinois.
Most clinics and physician offices require medical assistants to maintain current BLS certification for patient care and procedure assistance.
Dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants need BLS for patient safety during procedures and to meet state board requirements.
BLS is required for RTs working in hospitals, NICUs, and home care settings. Often a prerequisite for ACLS and PALS certification.
Certified nursing assistants and home health aides need BLS or Heartsaver CPR depending on employer requirements and care setting.
