Reviews from EMS Professionals

What Chicago EMTs & Paramedics Say About Our Classes

5.0 from 900+ EMS professionals

“Renewed ACLS between 24-hour shifts. The 6 AM class got me done before shift change. Instructor was a CCFP who actually understood field codes — not some nurse who has never been in an ambulance.”

Marcus T., NRP
Paramedic, Chicago Fire Department

“Got my BLS for EMT school in one afternoon. The instructor specifically covered ambulance scenarios — compressions in a moving rig, airway management in tight spaces, AED use with limited crew. Way more useful than the generic class I took before.”

Jenna K., EMT-B
EMT, Private Ambulance Service

“Our entire flight crew did on-site ACLS + PALS at our base. No driving, no lost shifts, no scheduling chaos. The instructor had actual flight medicine experience and covered high-altitude considerations and transport-specific protocols.”

David R., FP-C
Flight Paramedic, Life Flight

Common Questions

EMS Certification FAQ

All EMTs and paramedics in Illinois need AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers as a minimum. Paramedics (NRP) additionally need ACLS. Paramedics serving pediatric populations or working in systems with pediatric transport contracts may also need PALS. AEMTs may need ACLS depending on their scope of practice and EMS system requirements.

AHA BLS certification is valid for 2 years from the date of issue. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) requires current certification for EMS license renewal. We recommend renewing 60 days before expiration to avoid compliance gaps that can affect your EMS license and employment.

BLS (Basic Life Support) is the foundation certification every EMT and paramedic needs. It covers CPR for all ages, AED use, and bag-mask ventilation. ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) is required for paramedics managing adult cardiovascular emergencies in the field. It adds cardiac arrest algorithms, advanced airway management, resuscitation pharmacology, and team resuscitation dynamics — all adapted for pre-hospital environments with limited resources.

Yes — flight paramedics (FP-C or CCP-C) universally need ACLS certification. Many also need PALS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and specialty certifications depending on their transport program's patient population. We offer combo packages that bundle BLS + ACLS + PALS for flight medicine professionals.

EMTs typically do not need ACLS for their basic scope of practice. However, some EMS systems encourage or require EMTs to hold ACLS if they work in systems where paramedic backup is delayed. AEMTs in some systems may need ACLS depending on their ALS-level protocols. Check with your EMS medical director for specific requirements.

BLS for Healthcare Providers is $85 (initial) or $65 (renewal). ACLS is $250. PALS is $255. Group rates for fire departments and EMS agencies start at $75 per person for 6 or more crew members. BLS + ACLS combo packages offer additional savings. Many EMS agencies reimburse certification costs or provide on-site group training at no cost to members.

Yes — we specialize in on-site group training for fire departments, ambulance services, and EMS agencies of any size. We bring all equipment to your station or base, schedule around your shift rotations, and provide complete IDPH compliance documentation. Volume pricing and multi-certification combo packages available.

Yes — AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS cards are accepted by the Illinois Department of Public Health, Chicago Fire Department EMS, and every EMS system in Illinois without exception. AHA is the preferred certification provider for IDPH EMS licensing.

Same day — every EMT and paramedic walks out of class with their official AHA Provider card in hand. Digital cards are also emailed within the hour for immediate submission to your EMS medical director, IDPH, and fire chief.

Yes — we offer early morning (starting at 5:30 AM), mid-day, and evening sessions specifically designed for shift workers. For fire departments, we can certify one shift while the other covers calls, then rotate. For ambulance services, we can run classes during slow periods or on dedicated training days.
