Common Questions

BLS Certification — Frequently Asked Questions

BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is an American Heart Association credential designed for healthcare professionals and first responders. It covers high-quality CPR, AED use, bag-valve-mask ventilation, and team-based resuscitation. BLS is required for nurses, doctors, EMTs, paramedics, dental professionals, respiratory therapists, medical assistants, and most other clinical roles.

AHA BLS certification is valid for 2 years from the date of issue. You should renew before your card expires to avoid any gap in your credentials. We recommend booking your BLS renewal 2-4 weeks before expiration to ensure you get your preferred class time.

Initial BLS certification takes approximately 2 hours including skills practice and the written exam. BLS renewal classes take about 2 hours since they focus on skill refresh rather than teaching from scratch. Both classes include hands-on practice with mannequins, AED trainers, and bag-valve-mask devices.

BLS (Basic Life Support) is designed specifically for healthcare professionals and covers advanced skills like bag-valve-mask ventilation, team resuscitation dynamics, and two-rescuer CPR. Standard CPR certification (Heartsaver) is for non-medical individuals like teachers, coaches, and parents. If you work in healthcare, your employer almost certainly requires BLS, not standard CPR.

BLS initial certification is $85. BLS renewal is $65. Group BLS training for hospital departments and clinics is available at custom volume pricing. All classes include the AHA BLS Provider card valid for 2 years, same-day issuance, and all equipment and materials.

Yes. We issue official American Heart Association BLS Provider cards, which are the gold standard accepted by every hospital, clinic, nursing home, and healthcare employer in the United States. Our cards are identical to those issued by hospital education departments and are valid for 2 years.

If your BLS card expired within the last 30 days, you can take a BLS renewal course. If it has been more than 30 days since expiration, you will need to take the full initial BLS certification class again. Check your card's expiration date and call us at (312) 761-4859 if you are unsure which option applies.

Yes. We provide on-site BLS training for hospital departments, dental practices, clinics, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities. We bring all equipment to your location and can accommodate any group size. Volume discounts apply for groups of 6 or more. Contact us for a custom quote.
