Common Questions

ACLS Certification — Frequently Asked Questions

ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) is an American Heart Association certification designed for healthcare providers who manage adult cardiovascular emergencies. It covers advanced airway management, cardiac arrest algorithms, pharmacology, and post-arrest care. ACLS is required for ER physicians, ICU nurses, anesthesiologists, cardiologists, paramedics, and any healthcare professional who may lead or participate in adult resuscitation.

AHA ACLS certification is valid for 2 years from the date of issue. You should renew before your card expires to avoid any gap in your credentials. Most hospitals and healthcare systems require current ACLS as a condition of clinical privileges. We recommend booking your ACLS renewal 30-60 days before expiration.

Initial ACLS certification takes approximately 2 hours including skills practice and the written exam. ACLS renewal classes also take about 2 hours since they focus on skill refresh and updated guideline review rather than teaching from scratch. Both classes include hands-on practice with airway trainers, code simulations, and high-fidelity scenarios. Our express format respects your time while maintaining full AHA curriculum standards.

BLS (Basic Life Support) covers fundamental CPR, AED use, and choking response for all ages. ACLS builds on BLS and adds advanced content: systematic cardiovascular assessment, advanced airway management, cardiac arrest algorithms (VF, pVT, PEA, asystole, bradycardia, tachycardia), pharmacology of resuscitation drugs, post-cardiac arrest care, and acute stroke and ACS management. If you work in acute or critical care, you need both BLS and ACLS.

ACLS initial certification is $250. ACLS renewal is $250. Group ACLS training for hospital departments and EMS agencies is available at custom volume pricing. All classes include the AHA ACLS Provider card valid for 2 years, same-day issuance, and all equipment and materials. We also offer BLS + ACLS combo packages for new staff and residents.

Yes. We issue official American Heart Association ACLS Provider cards, which are the gold standard accepted by every hospital, clinic, and healthcare employer in the United States. Our cards are identical to those issued by hospital education departments and are valid for 2 years. Accepted by Northwestern Medicine, Rush University Medical Center, UChicago Medicine, and all major Chicago healthcare systems.

If your ACLS card expired within the last 30 days, you can take an ACLS renewal course. If it has been more than 30 days since expiration, you will need to take the full initial ACLS certification class again. Check your card's expiration date and call us at (312) 761-4859 if you are unsure which option applies. We recommend setting a reminder 60 days before expiration.

Yes. We provide on-site ACLS training for ER departments, ICUs, cardiac units, anesthesia groups, and EMS agencies across Chicagoland. We bring all manikins, airway trainers, ECG simulators, and equipment to your location and can accommodate any group size. Volume discounts apply for groups of 6 or more. We can also coordinate BLS + ACLS combo sessions for new residents and nursing staff.
